Martin Springhetti was born in Rapid City which is in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  He went to college at S.D. Tech and Black Hills State where he received a B.S. degree in business.  He went to graduate art school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he received M.A. and M.F.A. degrees in painting. 
He moved to New York City in 1975 to further his ambitions as an artist.  He made a living by doing fine-art screen printing for ten years and then taught art at Manhattan public high schools for the next twenty years.  In 2005 he moved full time to the hamlet of Galilee which is in northeast Pennsylvania.  He has been an artist all his life and appreciates the time he now has to create art.  He is married to another artist and they have a daughter.
